• Andrew Neiman is shy, introverted and passionate  about Jazz student. He is a drummer and a student of Terence Fletcher.

Ending explained

All of you have watched Whiplash and maybe puzzled whether that it's a happy or sad ending, with Neiman playing the most iconic piece of Jazz. It was obvious from Fletcher expressions, the smile he gave to Neiman. He always knew that Neiman had potential but when he couldn't play on JVC he said to him I guess you don't have it. After few minutes he proved him wrong and played for 9 minutes straight full of passion and madness.
Fletcher was happy that he had been being proved wrong and was ready to be a part of an iconic jazz moment.
The ending is a piece of art and in my opinion couldn't be better, showing Andrew transformation and triumph of Fletcher.

Was Fletcher right?

Despite Fletcher brutal, abrasive and violent style of teaching , it's still work on Neiman. Fletcher said in the movie that he was teaching jazz for a bigger purpose, to make second Charlie Parker. He wanted his student to be part of history by any means possible. He recruited every talented student from the practice room, perfected them and enhanced their skills.
But the path he took was controversial. There had been no information on the past of Fletcher as a teacher. Was this his way of teaching from the beginning. Compared to his teaching style, the other teacher shown in the movie Mr. Kramer, he was much passionate I know  it won't justify his abuse on his students, but just look at Mr. Kramer he was bland, showed lack of passion and interest. Do you think this type of teacher can make a great musician? Definitely not.
The path of greatness is terrifying, hard and ugly with a lot of mental test. Fletcher was right! In an effort of making the next big, but his path was extreme and many may not agree  to take it. Success is achieved though sacrifices and going beyond the limit , which ordinary people find crazy. They are not ready to face the danger. Madness is the price of excellence.
Andrew was a Fletcher partner in madness, knowing his bizarre personality he wanted to perform with him just to prove himself to Fletcher. He wanted to tell Fletcher his could be next Charlie Parker. He didn t see evil in Fletcher because he was just as insane and ruthless as him. They both had the same ideology.

Did Sean Casey die because of him?

Well, there is no clear answer. He was a patient of depression and anxiety since he was a student of Fletcher . In my opinion, Fletcher had very little to do with Sean suicide. He left the studio band and joined the Lincoln center 6 year ago. He committed suicide when he was at Lincoln center, if Fletcher vileness was the reason for his death, then he would have died when he was his student. Why wait to enroll in Lincoln center and become first trumpet
There is no further information mentioned about Sean Casey. Clearly, his parents were mourning his death and wanted someone to blame. Fletcher seemed to be a perfect culprit. Holding Fletcher solely responsible for Sean death is completely unjust with lack of evidence. Fletcher was a villain so it was very easy to blame him for all the wrongs but if we take stock, you wont find much evidence of him torturing Sean to death.
